Surgery for myopia, hyperopia and/or astigmatism

"Being able to swim in the pool or go to the beach and see everything perfectly is a luxury. Everyone told me and I now agree, it is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made."

With what visual problem do you arrive at Oftalvist?

When I decided to have the surgery, I had 3.5 myopia in each eye.

What prevents you from performing your ocular pathology in your day to day and how does it affect you?

Waking up every morning and having to reach for the nightstand to get my glasses was a constant bore. In addition, it was increasingly difficult for me to put my contact lenses in because of the dryness they generated.

What do they ask you at the Oftalvist center where you go to improve your visual health?

After doing the pre-operative tests and despite the fact that my cornea was not very thick, it met the necessary requirements to be able to operate with the femtosecond laser technique.

In the case of considering surgery, could you describe what it consists of?

At first I didn't think that you would be put in an operating room as such, but obviously, even if it's a minor operation, the care is the same. I would divide the operation into two phases: 1. They lay you down on a stretcher and in this first part you have to keep your gaze on a point of light. Perhaps this is the most uncomfortable part (to put it in some way) of the operation, you notice a slight pressure on the eye, but it's barely 30 seconds. 2. They put you on another stretcher where you have to keep your gaze fixed and you don't even notice this part. Of course, when they start to put the eye drops in your eye, you realize that you see and it is a joy.

How is the experience in the operating room?

My experience both before entering the operating room and after was very good, the nurses were very kind and I had to wait almost no time there. The operation does not last much more than 15-20 minutes, so when you want to realize it, you are already out and with renewed vision.

And the postoperative period?

The most uncomfortable are the first 2-3 hours, the eyes sting a little and you feel like grit. But after that, I slept for hours and when I woke up and realized I was seeing absolutely everything, I knew it was the best decision I ever made.

Do you follow any medical indications after surgery?

I spent a week taking a few drops but after the first week after the operation, I only had to apply artificial tears because working in front of the computer makes my eyes quite dry. But it is totally temporary.

Finally, what can you do now, that you couldn't do before, in your day to day?

I can do EVERYTHING without having to take my glasses, the box of contact lenses, the liquid, the tear (because of the dryness), come on, I carried a suitcase every time I went out. In addition, the possibility of being in the pool or on the beach and seeing everything perfectly is a luxury. Everyone said it and I join their opinion, it is one of the best decisions I have made.
