The first Oftalvist centre opened its doors in 1995 in Alicante, and we now have more than 45 centres throughout 15 provinces in Spain, all associated with leading Spanish hospitals. We are committed to offering our patients the safest conditions possible and looking after their wellbeing in all our surgical procedures.
We are also pioneers in cutting-edge medical-surgical techniques, equipping all our clinics with the very latest technology.
Constant pursuit of excellence
“At Oftalvist we believe it is important to implement technological advances as they provide improvements to surgical quality and safety which is the key priority for our patients”.
Ophthalmology in a hospital environment
Oftalvist belongs to the extensive Grupo HLA care network, which includes the 15 hospitals that ASISA has throughout Spain. Oftalvist joined the insurance company in 2000.
This decision led to the creation of the Oftalvist brand and the implementation of a model whose objective was to offer the very best healthcare services. Oftalvist also provides ophthalmology services in the majority of IMED Group hospitals.
As such, so we can ensure all our surgical procedures are carried out in conditions that meet the highest standards in terms of safety and wellbeing, Oftalvist offers medical-surgical ophthalmology services within leading hospitals in order to provide patients with a comprehensive healthcare service.

Our specialist units
Laser Refractive Surgery Unit
We specialise in the latest advances for laser eye surgery for correcting myopia, hyperopia and/or astigmatism. In 2004 we were the first in Europe to begin using femtosecond laser technology for 100% laser surgical procedures without the use of blades.
Presbyopia and Cataract Surgery Unit
We are experts in laser surgery procedures for treating cataracts and presbyopia. In 2012, we were the first in Spain to equip our centres with femtosecond laser platforms to perform surgery with maximum precision and optimum centration when implanting intraocular lenses.
Oftalvist Retina and Macula Unit
Those responsible for visual care in neurodegenerative diseases that affect the back of the eye or retina, many of which are related to the aging of the population, are some of the main causes of blindness in our country. That is why their early detection, as well as their control and monitoring, is so important. The most common are age-related macular degeneration (AMD), as well as ocular diabetes.
Cosmetic Eye Surgery and Orbit Unit
This unit uses several impressive techniques that offer excellent results, including blepharoplasty surgery on the upper and lower eyelids. The periocular tumour excision technique (Mohs technique) with reconstruction we perform returns the normal functionality and appearance of the eyelid, leaving the patient very satisfied.
Corneal Transplant Unit
Corneal blindness remains one of the greatest challenges faced by ophthalmologists today. Since 2012, over 80 keratoplasties, or cornea transplants have been performed by our medical team of ophthalmology experts at our centres in Madrid, Murcia, Lleida, Alicante and Barcelona.
Dry Eye Unit
It is estimated that more than 60% of the Spanish population over 45 years old suffer from dry eye disorder. At our Dry Eye Unit, in addition to conventional treatments, we have also incorporated the innovative high-frequency pulsed light, technology, a non-invasive and painless procedure that relieves the discomfort of dry eye for patients from the very first session.
Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology Unit
At Oftalvist we recommend that for children from 3 to 4 years of age a specialist ophthalmologist should carry out an initial visual acuity assessment and rule out any anomalies that may affect vision development, such as lazy eye, strabismus, refractive errors in children or blocked tear ducts.
Optometrist Offices
We also have our own optometrist offices for visual therapy, low vision and contact lens fitting, where we provide the patient with a personalised service to improve their visual acuity so they can gain more independence in everyday life.
Glaucoma Unit
Glaucoma is an illness that affects 2% of the population over 40 years old and 14% of those aged over 60 years old. The problem is that it is estimated that only half of patients with glaucoma actually know that they suffer from this disease, as it is asymptomatic. One of the several treatments offered by our specialists is minimally invasive surgery (MIGS), which involves implanting an intraocular drainage device.
Facial Cosmetic Treatment Unit
These days, concern for the health of our eyes is also accompanied by a desire for a younger, fresher and more vibrant look, to avoid a sad or tired appearance. At Oftalvist we offer the best advice, assessments and cutting-edge treatments for periocular cosmetic surgery. Some of the treatments we provide: include skin tightening, removal of dark circles, facial rejuvenation and photorejuvenation.
