With what problem do you arrive at Oftalvist? How many diopters did you have?
I had very high myopia, I had 7 and a half diopters in my right eye and 6.75 in my left eye. I have been myopic since I was 7 years old.
My mother realized that she did not recognize my uncle on the street and so she took me to the eye doctor and well, my right eye was already quite elevated, I think I remember that she was 2 or 2-odd when she was 7 years old. In the end it's all my life, all my life with glasses.
Why did you decide to have surgery?
What we said she envied was the freedom that not wearing anything gives you, not wearing a prosthesis. The fact that you go camping and have to be in the dark taking out my contact lenses inside the store. Let people go to sleep, get up and see. But in the end, you don't realize it until you're operated.
Every day, going to the bathroom and seeing things, not having to have things in the same place to find them, the simple fact of seeing the soap in the shower.
And things that did affect me a bit, not being able to do them normally, such as diving, swimming... I love swimming and in the end I had to go to the beach with contact lenses because with 7 diopters if I go with glasses I would take them off and I no longer saw
What type of operation do Oftalvist advise you?
When I arrive at the ophthalmology clinic in Alicante, they ask me to have a laser or refractive surgery with an intraocular lens and we opted for it because I had a lot of myopia. The doctor advised me that the best option for my vision would be an intraocular lens.
How is your experience in the operating room?
It's all more curious than fearful. The sensation that I had was curiosity because of course, I did not see the light and at a given moment, during the surgery, I already saw the light and the LEDs. And the truth is that I didn't feel anything, I didn't notice anything.
The doctor who operated on me, Dr. Enrique Artiaga, told me that maybe it would sting a little, because they keep giving you drops during the intervention. I didn't feel anything, nothing stung me. You may feel a little pressure, but I didn't notice anything. I think that the emotion of saying I take off my glasses could with everything else. It was great, it was super fast, I didn't find out. When the second eye arrived, I just wanted it to arrive already.
How is the recovery from ICL lens surgery?
The day I left the operating room, when I left I did notice a little discomfort, like grit, a mist, but the next day as soon as I opened my eyes I could already see perfectly. Already with that he wins everything, that surpasses everything.
What can you do now without glasses or contact lenses?
One thing that I have missed a lot and that I did not know was taking a bath with my son, because of course, until now I was not going to go into the bathroom with contact lenses and I can't go in with my glasses because you're being silly, and that's really cool.
Open the oven or the dishwasher without the glasses fogging up, playing sports and the glasses do not fall out or the eyes do not sting with the contact lenses. And well, I want to do diving now that I can perfectly well, I already want to do it, and I'm going to do it.
These are things that I could have done but in a different way. The quality of life improves a lot. And yes, now I understand why everyone tells you if I had known before, I would have done it before.
