Surgery for myopia, hypermetropia and/or astigmatism Refractive Surgery "The best thing is that there is no time limit, like there is with contact lenses. After a few hours they start to irritate your eyes and you’re forced to take them out. Now, however, it’s like you’re wearing them all the time but there is no time limit and your vision is much clearer." |
Why did you decide to solve your myopia problem?
He had myopia for 23 years, specifically 4 diopters. Obviously this entails some limitations because you depend on glasses or contact lenses as was my case. When you've been wearing contact lenses for so many years, the eye supports them for less and less time, you start to have discomfort and it ends up being uncomfortable, so I decided to take the step and have myopia operated on.
What technique and surgery do you consider at the clinic to correct your specific visual problem?
From the first minute they asked me to have eye surgery, giving me all the technical information related to the intervention, although logically always subject to passing the tests that determine that your eye is suitable for surgery. I was unaware of the FemtoLasik technique, they told me about it at Oftalvist and I thought it was a good option in view of the detailed explanations they gave me.
Did you know that FemtoLasik allows 100% laser refractive surgery unlike other techniques that correct myopia?
Honestly, I didn't have much knowledge of the subject of eye surgery, but when he told me, it naturally caught my attention. I liked that it was a much more aseptic and precise technique.
When you enter the operating room, what is the experience like?
The intervention lasted about 20 minutes and it didn't seem particularly long. The point is to be calm and relaxed and let those who know work. You go through two stretchers and two machines, and they work eye to eye. You are not asleep, you simply see your wet eye, lights and reflections of movements but you do not notice anything at all, in fact it does not even seem that they are touching your eye.
When you go out, everything is a bit blurry, so it is advisable to be accompanied. The night of the postoperative period I had a headache, more as a result of the nerves of the intervention than anything else, but with an aspirin it all went away. The next day my vision was already very good, although during the first days you are sensitive to strong light, so I was off work for two days.
As I am over 40 years old, for a couple of months I noticed a little loss of near vision, something that the doctors had warned me was normal, after that time now my vision is perfect both far and near and much clearer than the one I had with contact lenses. Normal life you do it a week or 10 days because you can't do some sports and regarding vision in my case after 2 months everything stabilized and I am very satisfied with the result.
Do you follow any particular medical indication after surgery?
Yes, my eye has a clear tendency to dry out from the use and abuse of contact lenses for so many years, so I will use eye drops for 6 months to avoid dry eyes.
What can you do now that you couldn't before due to lack of clarity?
The best thing is the fact that you don't have a limited time like with contact lenses. After a few hours, the contact lenses begin to "weigh" on your eyes and force you to remove them, let them moisten for a while, let the eye rest... now, on the other hand, it is like always wearing the contact lenses, only for an unlimited time and with much more clarity.
